Towards sustainability, the smart way
As responsible organisations, we must all proactively respond to global and industry trends that are impacting us today and into the future.
Like many companies, Coates has committed to net-zero targets and established a sustainability framework with five key pillars to help drive positive change for our stakeholders and wider society.
Providing you with more sustainable and efficient hire equipment, while supporting tangible sustainability outcomes across industries, is one of these key pillars. That’s why we’ve created our Greener Choices range and set our vision to be the market leader in safe, smart and sustainable equipment solutions.
Every day we aspire to strengthen the resilience of our people, our customers and our planet by playing our part in the circular economy. By driving eco-efficiency and resilience in our business and equipment solutions, we will contribute to a sustainable economy that keeps products and materials in use, designs out waste and pollution, and helps regenerate the natural environment.
Furthermore, we care deeply about making a positive difference for our people and planet. To have real impact on the world, we need to not only change the way we think and act, but also inspire others to act. There are challenges ahead, but by working together, we can turn shared vision into meaningful action.
Coates Greener Choices can be identified by this logo. It features a circular arrow to represent the life cycle and the circular economy concept that underpins our sustainability strategy. The dotted line symbolises that Coates is at the beginning of our journey towards sustainability and will continue to add to the Greener Choices range over time.
Our Greener Choices range offers you opportunities to reduce your greenhouse gas emissions, improve efficiencies and commit to best practice environmental sustainability standards. The criteria for inclusion in our Greener Choices range will continue to evolve as the industry advances and new technologies emerge.
Currently, the energy source categories in the range are hybrid, battery electric, solar and low pollutant engines (USA Tier 4 Final / EU Stage 4 & 5). The range also includes features such as biofuel compatibility, energy efficient appliances and LED lighting.
Hybrid technology typically combines a normal combustible engine with an electric motor and batteries.
Benefits:
- Low emissions- Equipment with more than one energy source
- Provides cleaner power
These low pollutant engines emit lower levels of emissions when compared to previous generation engine designs.
Benefits:
- Low pollutant
- Reduces exhaust pollutants
- Reduction in soot particles, creating a healthier work environment
Equipment powered purely by electricity with zero tailpipe emissions.
Benefits:
- Zero emissions when recharged from renewable electricity
- Produces less CO2 than combustible engine equipment
Equipment powered 100% by the sun, producing zero emissions.
- Zero emissions during operation of the equipment
- Zero emissions during generation of the electricity
Renewable, low carbon resources and biofuels have a significant contribution to make in reducing emissions, particularly in transportation and off-road equipment. You can use up to a 7% biodiesel blend in all our diesel engine fleet and up to 20% in a select range of equipment.
Many suppliers stipulate minimum quantities for biodiesel deliveries. Coates can support your on-site refuelling requirements including solar-powered mobile fuel trailers or bulk fuel tanks ranging from 500 litres to 10,000 litres.
Want to know more about using blended biodiesel fuel in Coates plant and equipment? See the Customer Product Information Sheet for further details.
Our site accommodation is continually evolving to optimise efficiency and improve environmental performance. Coates participated in the development of the Responsible Construction Leadership Group (RCLG) sustainability requirements to ensure our site accommodation is a greener choice for customers.
Our minimum standards for new portable buildings include LED lighting, R3.0 roof insulation and R2.0 wall insulation, toilets with a 3-star WELS rating (3/4.5L dual flush) and aerator taps (3.5L/min or less).
