10 uses for water blasters
High-pressure water blasters are handy pieces of kit to have around, both at home and on the construction site. Here are 10 labour-saving uses for water blasters that could make your life easier.
- Cleaning floors. From commercial office and warehouse flooring to industrial factory floors and garages, a pressure washer can lift dust, dirt and debris and prevent stains.
- Cleaning outdoor areas. When a garden hose won't cut it, turn on the water blaster to maintain your driveway, patio, steps, swimming pool surrounds and other outdoor spaces, turning down the pressure for wood decks.
- Cleaning exteriors. It's not just the ground that can benefit from a high-pressure wash. You can also give your exterior walls, fences and garage doors a spring clean with the waster blaster, adjusting the pressure to avoid chipping paint.
- Cleaning garden tools and furniture. If your outdoor furniture can handle the rain, it can probably withstand a high pressure wash. Water blasting can also keep manual tools in good condition and remove stuck soil and concrete.
- Washing vehicles and equipment. From cars and bikes to boats, caravans, trailers and hire equipment, a quick power wash can help to remove most dirt before you apply the sponge, and to rinse away the soap afterwards. Make sure any electrical or mechanical parts are covered and don't use a setting that could damage the paintwork.
- Cleaning roofs. You might not need to climb up to your roof if you can reach it with a water blaster. Even if you take it up with you, pressure washing can save a lot of time and effort, as long as you take care around slates.
- Degreasing engines. A hot water, high-pressure blaster can remove light grease from engine bays, though more stubborn grease will need a degreasing agent.
- Stripping paint. Accidental paint stripping can be a hazard when spraying vehicles or walls at high pressure – but what if you could turn that to an advantage? Pressure washing can remove loose paint from metal, wood, concrete and other surfaces, but you'll likely need other tools to finish the job.
- Cleaning bins. Bins and skips aren't places you want to spend a lot of time around. Regular pressure washing will help to keep them cleaner and prevent odours from building up.
- Cleaning BBQs.You won't want to use the highest setting, but careful spraying of your grill could remove stubborn dirt and grease that's otherwise hard to lift.
